Power of Attorney - Registering a representative to act on your behalf

Power of attorney is a legal authority through which one person (the donor), gives another person (the attorney or representative) authority to act on their behalf.

Obtaining a power of attorney may be suitable should you a need a friend or relative to administer accounts on your behalf.  Examples of when power of attorney could be used include working away long term, a long stay in hospital or loss of mental capacity.

Our Power of Attorney booklet (PDF opens in new window) outlines key information about the different types of power of attorney, under which circumstances the different types may be more appropriate, and what documentation you'll need to provide.

As an appointed representative, you may be able to manage your appointed accounts online (excludes Court of Protection registered customers or those acting on their behalf).  To select this as an option, place a tick in the relevant box when you complete the registration form.
