Registering your accounts for Paper-free

To register your accounts for Paper-free, sign into your online account and from 'My accounts', select 'Paper-free documents' then 'Document settings'.  Choose 'Online' as the delivery method for the account you wish to manage 'Paper-free', then 'Update'.

If a holder of a joint account selects to receive documents online, no paper documents will be sent to either of the account holders.

Your new settings will be updated within 36 hours and we'll send you a welcome email confirming you've chosen to bank Paper-free.  If any documents are pending dispatch, these will be sent as normal by post.  Future documents will then be sent Paper-free.

Always keep your email address up to date
Because we email you when new documents are available to view, it's very important that we always have your up-to-date email address.

How to update your email address.

If we receive three consecutive 'undeliverable' emails when trying to contact you, we'll prompt you to update your email address when you next sign in. If you don't provide an updated email address within three months, your document settings will automatically revert to postal delivery.

Your document settings will also automatically revert to postal delivery if you delete your email address.

Any documents already received Paper-free will remain securely stored online for two years from the date each document was delivered.

Viewing / printing your documents
When a new document becomes available to view, we'll email you straightaway and also display a message on 'My accounts'.

To read your new documents, either click on the unread document message on 'My accounts' or select 'Paper-free documents' on the left of the page.

To view a stored / archived document, select 'Paper-free documents' from the left of the page, then from the 'Display' dropdown box choose 'Archived' then click 'Go'.

Documents will be presented in html format, with the exception of credit card statement inserts and general changes to credit card account conditions, which will be displayed as a PDF (portable document format).  Once you have received them, you can organise your documents by printing, storing or archiving them online or downloading them with money management tools.  This helps you keep them organised and prevents documents being lost or misplaced.

If you do require a printed copy, simply click 'Print' at the top of your viewed document.

Storing / archiving your documents
To store your document securely online, place a tick in the box headed 'Archive' and then click 'Archive selected item'.

Documents are stored for two years from the date they were sent (not from the date you archived them). When the two years are nearly up, we'll display a message next to the document, advising that it will be automatically deleted in 28 days.

Switching between Paper-free and postal delivery settings

You can switch your document settings at any time between Paper-free and postal delivery.

From 'My accounts' select Paper-free documents' then 'Document settings'.  From the 'Document types' displayed, select the online or postal radio button then click the 'Update' button.

If you remove an account from 'My accounts' that was set up for the Paper-free service, the mailing preference for that account will automatically revert to postal.  Bank account statements will revert to quarterly delivery.

Money management software

Your Paper-free statements are compatible with Microsoft Money and Quicken XG money management software.

For more information about these, visit www.microsoft.com/money/ or www.quicken.intuit.com.

To import your statements into these software packages, open the statement then from the 'Save document to' dropdown select either 'Microsoft Money' or 'Quicken' and click 'Go'.

An alternative option to store your statements offline is to select 'File', then 'Save As' giving the document a filename of your choice. For the document 'Type' select 'Web Page, complete'. To use this option you need to be using an IE browser.

Whilst you are able to download your Credit Card statement into money management software, please be aware that only transactions will download, not interest charges.

Please Note: You cannot import your statements into money management software unless you have opted for Paper-free banking.
