Halifax Secure - Conditions of Use

1. Definitions

"Account" means your Halifax credit card account.

"Identity details" means the personal information you provide us with when enrolling to use Halifax Secure and which we use to verify that you are the holder of a Halifax credit card account.

"PAM" means the Personal Assurance Message you choose when you enrol which will be shown to you when making online purchases through participating merchants.

"Password" means the password you choose to identify yourself with when using Halifax Secure.

"Username" means the username you choose to identify yourself with when using Halifax Secure.

"We", "us" and "our" mean Halifax plc.

"You", "your" and "yours" mean the person who has entered into this agreement with us.

2. Using Halifax Secure

When you use Halifax Secure, both these conditions and your account conditions will apply. If they contradict each other, the relevant condition in your account conditions will apply.

3. Enrolment

a) To enrol for Halifax Secure you must provide us with identity details which we will check.

b) When your identity details have been verified you must also choose a unique password, username and PAM.

c) Your personal information will not be shared with any online retailer when carrying out an online transaction and will only be used in the ways described in our Privacy Policy.

d) If you do not provide adequate identity details we will not allow you to enrol for Halifax Secure.

4. Security

a) You are responsible for keeping your password and username secret. You must not write down, store (whether encrypted or otherwise) on your computer or mobile phone handset or let anyone else know your password or username, and the fact that they are for use with this service.

b) If you think that someone else knows your password or username or has used either of them to use Halifax Secure, you must change it immediately using the Halifax Secure "Personal Account Manager" facility. If you are unable to use this facility, you can notify us by calling the helpdesk telephone number on the back of the card you use with your account.

c) For administration or security reasons, we can require you to change your password before you use (or carry on using) Halifax Secure.

d) If we think that:

  • someone else is trying to use Halifax Secure for your account;
  • you or someone else is using Halifax Secure illegally;
  • you are not keeping to these conditions or your account conditions; or
  • your password or username might be known by someone else

we can stop you using Halifax Secure.

e) We may give the police or any prosecuting authority any information they need if we think it will help them find out if someone else is using your password or username.

f) We may keep any emails sent to or from us. We do this to check what was written and also to help train our staff.

 

5. Notices

We may change these conditions for any reason by sending written notice to any address you provide us (including your email address) or by publishing the change on our web site. If you change your address (including your email address) you must notify us immediately to ensure that our records are up to date. Halifax Secure may be amended or terminated, either temporarily or permanently, without notice where the amendment or termination has been required by Visa International Services Association or MasterCard International who run the payment systems for the cards used with your accounts.

The current version of the conditions can be viewed at any time at www.halifax.co.uk/creditcards. In addition, when using certain Halifax Secure services, you will be subject to any rules or guidance which applies to those services that are shown on that web site.

 

6. Termination

a) If you wish to terminate your use of Halifax Secure, you must send an email to cardmemberservices@halifax.co.uk, following which your password and username will be deactivated. Any purchases made using Halifax Secure prior to deactivation will not be affected.

b) We can terminate your ability to use Halifax Secure on written notice. We will normally provide you with thirty days written notice, however, in exceptional circumstances we may terminate your access immediately and notify you as soon as possible thereafter at your current e-mail address.

 

7. Your liability

a) Unless you are a victim of fraud, you are responsible for all instructions sent using your password.
