Your Policy

How much you should insure your home/contents for

Normally your home should be insured for a minimum of the property's rebuilding cost and your contents should be insured for their total combined value. However, Halifax Home Insurance offers unlimited cover for both buildings and contents cover.

Policy excesses

An excess is the first part of a claim which the policyholder must pay. You can choose the amount of excess you want to pay between nil, £50, £75, £100, £150 and £250.

Specific/high value items

Certain Items within contents cover need to be specified if they are of high risk and worth more than £1,500. Please see the policy booklet for a list of high risk items.

Checking what amount your contents are covered for

Our contents insurance covers the full cost of repairing or replacing your contents on a new for old basis, subject to single article and high risk item limits.

Contents limits

  • Food in the freezer up to £500
  • High risk items single item limit of £1,500
  • Unspecified high risk item aggregate limit of up to £15,000
  • Visitors’ personal belongings in your home up to £500 per visitor
  • Cover automatically covered for business equipment up to £5,000
  • Contents in the open up to £500 (garden items)
