Urgent Flood Advice

Some help for Halifax customers affected by floods

It's important that you react quickly and calmly once you've been warned of an imminent flood. There are a number of simple steps you can take to protect you against floods and reduce the potential damage to your property.

  • Put plugs into sinks and weigh them down with something heavy.
  • Turn off your water, gas and electricity supplies to prevent contamination or fire.

If you have been affected by the recent floods we have put in place a number of special arrangements to help Halifax customers.

For Halifax Insurance customers:

  • If you can no longer live in your home, we can make emergency payments and help you secure temporary accommodation
  • We will appoint one of our dedicated Personal Claims Consultants to visit your home, and provide you with specialist help and support
  • We can provide you with access to one of our preferred builders and restoration experts to help repair your home
  • We can also give you advice on how to minimise damage to your home

For Halifax customers who have a Current Account, Mortgage or Loan with us:

  • We may be able to defer your Mortgage or Loan repayments for 3 months (interest will continue to be applied).*
  • If you have an overdraft facility you can ask for an emergency limit increase.**

For customers saving with us:

  • We will allow all customers who have been affected by flood damage to access their funds even if they are in a fixed rate savings account, free of penalty.
  • If you wish to withdraw from an ISA, please be aware that you cannot replace any money you withdraw in a tax year.
  • Part withdrawls cannot be made from a Term Deposit, however should you not require access to all your funds, you can open a new Term Deposit with the funds you would like to continue to save.
