Track down an unclaimed account
If you think you may have had an account with an organisation that is now part of Halifax, we may be able to help you.
We are part of the British Bankers’ Association response to the Unclaimed Assets Scheme. The scheme will re-invest any forgotten money, which has sat untouched in a savings or current account for 15 years or more, back into the community.
We realise that some of our customers may have forgotten that they hold money in an account with us. So, even after we’ve transferred the money to the scheme, you can still re-claim your money – and this is something that we can help you with.
What you need to do.
If you have held a Halifax account in the past and think you may have forgotten accounts with us, we can do our best to find and reactivate these for you.
Before you contact us, please consider the following:
- Before you begin try and get hold of the following information about your Halifax account. This will help speed up your search:
Old bank statements
Old passbooks
Any old correspondence from us
To start the tracing process:
You can visit www.mylostaccount.org.uk to submit an electronic account tracing form online. This is an official site set up by the British Bankers' Association (BBA), the Building Societies Association (BSA) and National Savings and Investments (NS&I).
Or, you can visit any Halifax branch where a member of staff will talk you through what needs to be done.
If you do call into a branch, please bring along any old passbooks, statements or any other information related to the account you’re trying to trace. You will also need to bring along some identification, like a passport or drivers license.
Once we have traced your account we will write to you about the next steps of reuniting you with your money within 90 days.
