How much does investing cost?


Our Charges

We use a simple pricing structure to help you understand what your investment will cost. Start trading for as little as £2 dealing commission with our scheduled regular investing.

  • No platform charge (for all portfolio sizes)
  • £12.50 online dealing commission per trade (standard rate)
  • £2 dealing commission per trade on regular investments
  • £3.95 reduced dealing commission per trade during our *monthly offer period
  • £12.50 Stocks and Shares ISA (admin fee annually)
  • Foreign currency charges 1.25% of exchange rate (international trades only)

Once a month we give you the opportunity to trade UK shares between 12:15pm – 2:15pm, and international shares all day for £3.95 dealing commission per online trade. Trading examples

Trading example

If you invest £10,000 in a Share Dealing Account over 12 months and trade 8 times you would pay £100, and £112.50 in a Stocks and Shares ISA (ISA administration charge £12.50). Separately you would pay £50 of stamp duty in tax to the UK government.

Fund trading example

If you invest £10,000 in Funds over 12 months and trade 4 times you would pay;

  • £50, or £62.50 in a Stocks and Shares ISA to Halifax Share Dealing
  • £105.70 to the fund manager (based on an industry average at 03/05/2019 of 1.057%)
  • Total of £155.70 or £168.20 in a Stocks and Shares ISA (ISA administration charge £12.50)

Other Costs and Taxes

In addition to the charges you pay to us there are also some other charges when investing to be aware of.

  • Stamp duty of 0.5% (1% for Irish stocks) on the value of UK stock purchases only
  • Panel of takeovers and mergers £1.00 (on trades over £10,000)
  • If you invest in a fund you will pay ‘Ongoing Charges’ and transaction costs to the fund manager each year (industry average at 03/05/2019 was 1.057%)

Things to consider before transferring

  • Not all pensions are transferable - contact your current provider to find out if you’re able to transfer.
  • Exit and transfer fees may apply with your existing pension provider.
  • You may lose out on potential pension benefits with your current provider if you choose to transfer out.

Transfer your pension to Halifax

To transfer in from another registered pension scheme will cost £60 per transferring plan (max £300.00).

  1. Step 1 - Open a SIPP and complete the transfer form as part of the application.
  2. Step 2 - Return it to the address provided on the form, and that's it!

If you already have a SIPP, download, print out and complete a transfer form (PDF).


What happens next?

  • Once we’ve received your transfer form we’ll request a valuation from your current provider.
  • As soon as we’ve received the valuation we’ll start the transfer process.
  • We'll text you with any updates until your transfer is completed.  Transfers take around 6-8 weeks.
  • If we need any further information we will notify you and we’ll keep you updated with the progress of your transfer and confirm once complete.
