Improvements to viewing your credit card online
Following research and feedback from our customers, we've made it easier to view your card details online.
When you sign in to view your credit card, you'll now be taken direct to the 'Recent transactions' page.
Rather than have separate 'Account summary' and 'Recent transactions' pages, we've combined all the information previously shown on these two pages onto a single 'Recent transaction' page, giving you all the useful information you're used to seeing in just one place, making it even easier to manage your card online.
Credit cards
You can view your credit card statements and recent transactions, make balance transfers, request new card limits and make your monthly card payments online.
If you haven't already added your credit card to 'My accounts' see the 'How to add accounts' page.
Viewing your recent transactions
From 'My accounts' select 'Recent transactions' from the 'Take me to' dropdown box and click 'Go'. Alternatively, select your credit card from 'My accounts' then select 'Recent transactions' on the left of the page.
These are your most recent card transactions, including any recent payments, and will appear on your next statement.
Viewing your card statements
From 'My accounts' select 'View statements' from the 'Take me to' dropdown box and click 'Go'. Alternatively, select your credit card from 'My accounts' then select 'Recent statements' from the left hand menu.
Your current statement will be displayed - this will not show either your next months payment due date, or the amount of any recent payments, until your statement is updated for the next month.
In addition to your current statement, you can also view your two previous monthly statements by selecting either 'Month 1' or 'Month 2'. If you've chosen to view your statements Paper-free, you can view earlier stored statements by selecting 'Paper-free documents' from the left hand menu and clicking the document you wish to view from those displayed. Alternatively you can select 'My Paper-free statements' from the Recent statements page. To view any archived documents, select 'Archived' from the Display dropdown box and click 'Go'.
From October 2008 your online statements may also include a Notice of Default Sums. This change is part of the Consumer Credit Act 2006 (CCA) which states that from that date, a Notice must be sent to customers where they have incurred charges for breaking their agreement.
Paying your monthly credit card statement online
Payment by Direct Debit
You can choose to pay your monthly credit card statement automatically each month by Direct Debit – either the minimum payment amount, or the card balance in full. This is particularly useful if your payment date is due whilst you're on holiday.
To set up a new Direct Debit
From 'My accounts' select 'Direct Debit' from the 'Take me to' dropdown box and click 'Go'. Alternatively, select your credit card from 'My accounts' then select 'Direct Debit' on the left of the page.
Click 'Create Direct Debit', then select to pay either the minimum monthly amount or the full balance.
Select the Halifax account from which you wish to make the payment from the dropdown box. Alternatively, if payment is being made from an account with another organisation, provide the account number and sort code. Then click 'Next'.
Check the details shown on the confirmation page are correct, then click 'Submit' to complete your request.
The payment will be debited to your account in sufficient time to meet your payment due date.
New Direct Debits take 10 working days to set up so please continue to make alternative arrangements to pay any statements due within this period.
Cancelling or amending a Direct Debit
To cancel or amend an existing Direct Debit, from 'My accounts' select 'Direct Debit' from the 'Take me to' dropdown box and click 'Go'. Alternatively, select your credit card from 'My accounts' then select 'Direct Debit' on the left of the page.
To cancel the Direct Debit, click 'Cancel Direct Debit', then click 'Submit' on the confirmation screen to proceed.
To amend the payment, click 'Amend payment amount'. You can only switch between either paying the minimum amount or the full card balance. Then click 'Submit' on the confirmation screen to proceed.
If you want to change the account from which you pay your Direct Debit, please cancel your existing Direct Debit then create a new Direct Debit using the process above.
Paying your monthly credit card statement online manually
Use this method if you wish to pay varying amounts to your monthly statements, or on a date of your choice. (This follows the current process)
Payments made from a suitable Halifax account:
From 'My accounts' select the credit card you wish to pay. Click the 'Online payment' button then from the dropdown list, choose the account you wish to pay the bill from.
Select whether you wish to pay the minimum amount, or enter the amount you wish to pay in the 'Other amount' field. Then select the date you wish to make payment on.
Click 'OK' to confirm the payment.
The payment will take up to 4 working days to process, so please allow for this if your payment has to be received by a specific date.
Payments made from non-Halifax accounts:
You can pay using a Visa Delta/Electron or Switch/Solo debit card issued by another organisation, using a service certified and supported by WorldPay.
From the 'Online payment' page select 'WorldPay Online Payment System'. Enter the amount you wish to pay then click the 'Submit' button. Provide the details requested on the WorldPay payment screens.
Payments using this method can take up to 4 working days to reach your account.
Balance transfers
The minimum transfer amount is £100, and the maximum transfer amount is 90% of your available credit. Balance transfers can take up to 7 working days to complete.
From 'My accounts' select 'Balance transfer' from the 'Take me to' dropdown box and click 'Go'. Alternatively, select your credit card from 'My accounts' then select 'Balance transfer' on the left of the page.

Any recently requested balance transfers will be shown. These can be cancelled while the request remains pending, after which the balance transfer can no longer be cancelled.
Requesting a new credit card limit
To apply for a change to your limit, you must have held your account for at least 6 months.
From 'My accounts' select 'New credit limit' from the 'Take me to' dropdown box and click 'Go'. Alternatively, select your credit card from 'My accounts' then select 'New credit limit' on the left of the page.
Your current credit limit and the date of your last limit change will be shown.

If you've previously decreased your credit limit online and now want to increase your limit, please call the customer service team on the number shown on the reverse of your card.
Adding an additional cardholder
The maximum number of additional cardholders allowed is 3. The additional cardholder must be:
- Aged 18 or over – their date of birth and nationality must be provided
- Primarily resident at your current address – for example, your son/daughter/dependent may be away at University, but their primary address for all of their financial accounts remains at your address
- An immediate family member – spouse, partner, parent, brother, sister, grandparent or dependent
From 'My accounts' navigate to your credit card and select 'Additional cardholder' from the 'Take me to' dropdown box and click 'Go'. Alternatively, select your credit card from 'My accounts' then select 'Additional cardholder' on the left of the page.
From here you can 'Amend' the cardholder details (name and nationality only) or 'Remove' cardholders.
To add a new cardholder, click 'Add cardholder'. Read and accept the Declaration by selecting 'Yes'.
Enter the 'Additional cardholder details' then click 'Next'. Confirm the details are correct then click 'Submit' to add the cardholder. The new card will be sent to the primary address within 10 days.
Please note that additional cardholders will not be able to view the credit card online.
As principal cardholder, you are responsible for all transactions made on any additional cards. If the additional card is withdrawn, you must retrieve and destroy the card, during which time you are still liable for all transactions made using that card.
If for any reason you cannot retrieve the card, please call the card services team on the number shown on the reverse of your card.
Request a PIN reminder
If you forget your credit card PIN, you can now request a PIN reminder which will be sent through the post.
From 'My accounts' select 'PIN reminder' from the 'Take me to' dropdown box and click 'Go'. Alternatively, select your credit card from 'My accounts' then select 'PIN reminder' on the left of the page.
Simply select the cardholder you require a reminder for then click 'Next'. To confirm your request click 'Submit'.
Your PIN reminder will be sent to your statement address and arrive within 3 to 5 working days. For security reasons we cannot give a PIN reminder over the phone.
Please note that only one PIN reminder can be processed each day. If you make any additional PIN requests in the same day, only the most recent request will be processed.

Select 'Online' as your method of delivery for the accounts that you want to be Paper-free.
Your new settings will be updated and we'll send you a welcome email confirming you've chosen to bank Paper-free. If any documents are pending dispatch, these will be sent by normal post. Future documents will then be sent Paper-free.
We'll send an email alert every time you receive a Paper-free document from us. It's important that you inform us if you change your email address so that we can let you know when new documents arrive.
Amending your Paper-free settings
You can change your document settings at any time by selecting 'My Paper-free documents' and then selecting 'Document settings'. You can add accounts to Paper-free or, if you prefer, you can go back to receiving paper documents. Just choose 'online' or 'postal' as your method of delivery.
If you remove an account from 'My accounts' that was set up for the Paper-free service, the mailing preference for that account will automatically revert to monthly postal statements.

If we have three consecutive failed attempts to alert you, we'll prompt you to update your email address next time you sign in. If you don’t provide an updated email address within three months, we'll change your document settings back to postal delivery.
If you delete your email address your document settings will be automatically changed to postal delivery. Any documents you've already received Paper-free will remain securely stored online for two years from the date each document was delivered.
