Disabilities
All our customers deserve excellent service. We encourage our colleagues to show a positive and enlightened attitude to people with disabilities and we have adapted our range of financial services to make them accessible to everyone.
We have around 800 branches in the UK, most of which are open-plan to make them easier to navigate. The majority have a reception desk and seating for customers. Our colleagues are always on hand to discuss specific needs or answer queries.
Wheelchair users
Getting in and out of our branches is usually easy, with level or ramped access from pavements. Doors are automatic wherever possible.
Call assistance
Where steps are unavoidable we have installed a 'Call assistance' bell system so you can call one of our colleagues.
Servicecall
Some branches are fitted with a system where customers with a Servicecall transmitter can alert colleagues when they arrive.
Lifts
Where branches have split-level banking halls, we provide internal ramps or wheelchair lifts.
Low-level counters and counter queuing rails
More and more of our branches have lower level writing surfaces at the counter. All branches have counter queuing rails and these often have lower level writing surfaces.
Our cash machines are generally installed at a level that wheelchair users can easily reach.
Sight problems
We welcome guide dogs in all our branches and offer additional help such as:
- Leaflets in large print, Braille and on audio tape. You can order these in our branches and we will send them directly to you
- Magnifying sheets in all branches and agencies, to help you fill in forms and sign documents
- Cheque book templates to make writing cheques easier
- Bank note guide to help you identify different denominations
- Screen text enhancer to make the information on the visual display unit easier to read when you are in a one-to-one discussion with a Halifax adviser
Hearing problems
Our colleagues are always happy to write things down for you and vice versa. In addition, we offer the following services:
- Typetalk, the RNID telephone relay service, is used extensively throughout the Halifax, so we can have a two-way conversation with you
- Textphones are used in key areas of the Halifax. Our textphone number is 08456 02 46 26
