Ultimate Reward Current Account will cost £15 a month. However, if in the previous calendar month you pay in £750 or more and pay out at least 2 two different direct debits and remain in credit you'll pay the lower monthly account fee of £10.

You'll also need to keep your account open/not change it to a different type of current account until the fee is due to be debited (by the second working day of the following calendar month).

Use the Current Account Switch Service and close your old account held elsewhere. If you've had cashback for switching since January 2012, we're sorry but you don't qualify.

To qualify for the £125 switching offer (“the offer”) you must use the ‘Current Account Switch Service’ and meet the following conditions:

  • Use the 'Current Account Switch Service' to switch into a new or existing, Reward Current Account, Ultimate Reward Current Account (£15 monthly fee) or Halifax Current Account ("your account").
  • Use the ‘Current Account Switch Service’ to transfer all the active credits and debits from the bank account that you hold with another bank and close this account.

You're not eligible for this offer if you have previously received any other offer or benefits for switching to a Halifax bank account at any point since January 2012 or if you're a Bank of Scotland bank account customer switching to the Halifax.

What else do you need to know?

  1. The offer applies to applications received in branch, online or by phone from 20 April 2015. The offer is subject to change and can be withdrawn without notice at any time.
  2. This offer does not automatically guarantee an overdraft. Any application made for an overdraft will be subject to status. If your account has an overdraft you will not pay any daily overdraft fees for 6 months provided you stay within your planned overdraft limit; if you exceed your planned overdraft limit, then unplanned overdraft fees will still apply.
  3. After 6 months, or if you change your current account, you will be charged daily overdraft fees applicable to the account you hold if you use your overdraft. Please see the Getting Started Guide available in branch or www.halifax.co.uk/bankaccounts/rates-rewards-fees for details on overdraft fees.
  4. If you do not meet the conditions of the offer we may claim back the £125. We will do this by debiting £125 from your account.
  5. Only one offer is available per customer. Joint accounts will only be eligible for one payment.
  6. The offer will be paid directly into your account within three working days once your switch has completed. The payment will appear as a cash credit.
  7. The offer is not available to customers whose existing account is being managed by our Recovery Departments.
  8. The offer is not available to employees of Lloyds Banking Group, or if the employee is named on any bank account held in joint names.

Open a joint account online

  • Both account holders are individually and jointly responsible for any debts on the joint account.
  • Credit reference agencies often create a financial link or association between two people with a joint account. Meaning that the financial situation of the second person on the account could affect your credit rating.

  • We cannot add another person to an account with an overdraft online, to add a person to an account with an overdraft visit us in branch.

Here’s how to create a new joint account

  1. Open a new current account in your name
  2. Select the "make it joint" option at the end of the application to invite a second person to join the account
  3. We'll send you an activation code when the second person has completed the application
  4. Enter the activation code and we'll add the second person to the account then confirm to you by email

Important overdraft information

As part of opening a new joint current account (step 1), you may be offered an overdraft in your sole name. Please do not accept this, and wait until you receive e-mail confirmation that the joint account application is complete (step 4) before applying for an overdraft in joint names.

The insurance cover and other services that come with the Ultimate Reward Current Account Benefits Package are renewed every month and will end if: (i) your Ultimate Reward Current Account is closed; (ii) you fail to pay the monthly fee for the account; (iii) your account is changed to another type of account with us; (iv) your residential address is no longer in the UK. Any other insurance policies that you yourself have taken out at a discount as part of the benefits package will not be affected.
