Reward Current Account

A bank account that pays £5 to your pocket month in, month out – it's our way of saying thanks!

Features

Isn’t it time your bank thanked you properly for your custom?

We think so, too. That’s why we’ve launched a bank account that replaces the usual interest payments with something that’s easy to understand – and potentially far more rewarding.

The Reward Current Account works like this:

  • We'll give you £5 each month you pay in £1,000, whether you're in credit or overdrawn.
  • Our overdraft fees are simple to understand. You'll pay daily overdraft fees rather than monthly interest, making it easy to manage your money. See the Overdrafts section for more details.
  • You can keep track of your money with a free mobile alerting service.

Plus, you get all the standard features you'd expect from a current account, including:

  • A Halifax Visa debit card.
  • Use of cash machines to withdraw up to £300, get mini statements, check your balance and top up your mobile.
  • Access to any of our branches, as well as our 24-hour telephone and online banking service.

Even if you don't pay in £1,000 each month, our Reward Current Account could still be the account for you. You'll receive all the standard features of our account and in any month you do pay in £1,000, you'll get £5 too.

This could suit you even better…

Apply for an Ultimate Reward Current Account and you’ll receive a great range of benefits. These include peace-of-mind insurance cover, exclusive offers and great rates in return for just £12.50 a month.

Your overdraft made easy

Do you know how much interest you pay if you go overdrawn? Not many people do, so we're keeping things simple. We'll use a fixed daily fee that's easy to track. Staying in control of your finances has never been simpler.

Here’s how our Reward Current Account works:

If you...

then we’ll charge you...

use an arranged overdraft up to and including £2,500

£1 a day

use an arranged overdraft over £2,500

£2 a day

use an unarranged overdraft

£5 a day

With a Reward Current Account you won’t have to pay any other fees if you go overdrawn, so you need never worry. It makes perfect sense. What's more, we won't charge you any fees, as long as you pay in enough money to bring your bank account back into credit by the end of the day. As we charge fees on this account instead of interest, the typical rate is 0% EAR.

Managing your account

We know that keeping track of your money is not always easy, so we're offering a free mobile alerting service as part of the Reward Current Account.

If you choose to register for this service, we'll send you a text message if you go into an unarranged overdraft. Then, every 7 days or so after that, we'll send you a reminder text if you remain in an unarranged overdraft.

An unarranged overdraft is an overdraft that you have not arranged with us in advance.

We'll stop sending you texts when your account is back within your arranged overdraft or in credit.

You can register for the mobile alerting service online. Remember it's a free service that could help you manage your Reward Current Account.

An important note…

This payment is 'net' of income tax. This means we pay it after taking off income tax at the rate set by law (currently 20%). If you are a higher-rate taxpayer, you may have to pay extra income tax on the reward payment. The gross amount is £6.25. This is the amount before we take off income tax. You may reclaim tax from HM Revenue & Customs if the amount of tax we have taken off is more than you have to pay. To find out more visit www.hmrc.gov.uk/incometax.Halifax current accounts and services are offered subject to status overdrafts are repayable on demand. EAR is the equivalent annual rate. This is the actual annual cost of an overdraft. This does not take into account any fees or charges.
