This summary outlines cover available under our Credit Card Repayments Cover - Lifestyle policy, which is underwritten by Halifax Insurance Ireland Limited and Halifax Assurance Ireland Limited. The following summary does not contain the full terms and conditions and should be read in conjunction with the full policy conditions, a copy of which is available on request.

More Information

There are words in the sections below that have special meanings; these are highlighted in bold. Full explanations of these 'Words with special meanings' can be found in Section 1 of the policy conditions. This policy is a monthly renewable policy (See Duration & Termination Section below). Receipt of benefits under this policy may affect your entitlement to State Benefits.

ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible for cover you must be on the start date:

  • the principal cardholder and card payments must not be in arrears
  • over 18 but under 65
  • a UK resident
  • in paid work under a contract of employment or self-employed and paying the appropriate class of national insurance contributions.

LIFE COVER

Benefits: If you die between the start date and the end date, we will pay the outstanding balance at the date of your death, on your credit card up to a maximum of £25,000.

Exclusions: We will not pay life benefits if:

  • your death results from suicide or self-inflicted injuries within 12 months of the start date
  • your death directly relates to any pre-existing condition or chronic condition.

Life cover under this policy ends when you reach the age of 70.

DISABILITY COVER

Benefits: If you are unable to work for more than a continuous period of 15 days, we will pay benefit for every day you are unable to work from the first day, up to a maximum of 12 months. In the event of a valid claim, we will pay the greater of 10% of the outstanding balance or the highest balance in the preceding statement month up to a maximum of £2,500 a month.

Exclusions:

  • We will not pay benefits if the disability is resulting from any pre-existing condition or chronic condition.

Special Conditions:

  • If you suffer from back pain that is not considered to be 'mechanical', payment beyond 3 months will only be considered if you have been referred to and remain under the care of a back specialist.
  • If you are diagnosed with a psychological illness, payment will be limited to 3 months, unless you have been referred to and remain under the care of an appropriate specialist.

Disability cover under this policy ends when you reach the age of 65 or permanently retire.

UNEMPLOYMENT COVER

Benefits: If you are unable to work for more than a continuous period of 15 days, we will pay benefit for every day you are unable to work from the first day, up to a maximum of 12 months. In the event of a valid claim, we will pay the greater of 10% of the outstanding balance or the highest balance in the preceding statement month up to a maximum of £2,500 a month.

Exclusions: We will not pay unemployment benefits if:

  • you were not in 6 months continuous employment immediately before the date of your claim
  • at the start date you knew you were going to be made unemployed or had reason to believe it was likely to happen
  • you become voluntarily unemployed
  • your unemployment ends or you were notified of your unemployment ending within 45 days of the start date. you work on a fixed term contract which ends unless you were working continuously for the same employer for at least 24 months, or you were on a contract for at least 12 months and had it renewed at least once, or you were originally employed on a permanent basis by the same employer but were transferred to a fixed term contract without a break in employment.

Unemployment cover under this policy ends when you reach the age of 65 or permanently retire.

CARER COVER

Benefits: If you become a carer for a partner, parent or child between the start date and the end date, we will pay the outstanding balance, on your credit card up to a maximum benefit of £25,000.

Exclusions: We will not pay carer benefit if:

  • your work ceases for any other reason not associated with the need to become a carer for a partner, parent or child or you are currently receiving benefits under the disability or unemployment section of the plan
  • the sickness or injury of the person being cared for is pre-existing.

Carer cover under this policy ends when you reach the age of 65, permanently retire or you have been paid carer cover benefit. Please see the policy conditions Section 7 for Carer Cover benefits and exclusions.

HOSPITAL COVER

Benefits: If you are hospitalised for more than a continuous period of 7 days, we will pay benefit for every day you are unable to work, up to a maximum of 12 months. In the event of a valid claim, we will pay the greater of 10% of the outstanding balance or the highest balance in the preceding statement month to a maximum of £2,500 a month.

Exclusions:

  • We will not pay benefits if hospitalisation results from any pre-existing condition or chronic condition.

Special Conditions:

CRITICAL ILLNESS COVER

Benefits: In the event that you suffer from one of the Critical Illnesses listed in your policy conditions, we will pay the outstanding balance, as at the date of diagnosis of the critical illness, from which you survive for a period of 30 days or more from the date of diagnosis up to a maximum of £25,000.

Exclusions: We will not pay benefit if:

  • the critical illness results from any pre-existing condition or chronic condition
  • the critical illness is suffered by you within 3 months of the start date.
  • the condition relates directly or indirectly from intentionally self-inflicted bodily injury.

Critical illness cover under this policy ends when you reach the age of 65, permanently retire or you have been paid critical illness benefit. Once payment has been made for critical illness cover, all cover under this policy will end.

LIFE EVENT COVER

Benefits: In the event of one of the life events listed in your policy conditions occurring, we will pay 5% of the average highest balance in the 6 statement months immediately before the life event occurs to a maximum benefit of £1,250.

Exclusions: We will not pay benefit if:

  • your life event occurs within 9 months of the start date; or
  • your partner dies and you subsequently submit a claim for your marriage or civil partnership ending; or
  • you become a foster parent; or
  • you buy a property which is for investment purposes, on a buy to let basis or is otherwise subsequently let for any reason.

Special Conditions:

  • A life event may be any of the following:
    • If you marry or enter into a civil partnership
    • If you become a parent
    • If you become an adoptive parent
    • If you buy a property in the UK which is to be your main residence and you are the sole or joint owner
    • If your marriage or civil partnership ends.
  • We will only pay you two life event benefits in any twelve month period

Life event cover under this policy ends when you reach the age of 70. Please see the policy conditions Section 10 for full details on the benefits and exclusions.

DURATION & TERMINATION

The policy will cover you provided that you keep paying your monthly premiums. Your policy will terminate at the earliest of the following:

  • the date of your death
  • the date you have been paid benefit under the Critical Illness cover section of your policy
  • the date you reach the age of 70 for Life, Hospital and Life Event cover
  • the date when you reach the age of 65 for Disability, Unemployment, Carer and Critical Illness Cover
  • the date when you fail to pay two minimum payments on your credit card for two months in a row
  • when you cancel your policy.

COMPLAINTS

Full details of our complaints procedure are set out in the policy conditions. However, if you have a complaint you should in the first instance contact: Claims & Administration Department, PO Box 534, Uxbridge UB8 1WF or by telephoning 0845 600 6007, Fax 0845 600 1197. If you are not happy or the problem has not been resolved to your satisfaction you may refer it to our Customer Relations Department at the address given above. If you are still not happy or the problem has not been resolved to your satisfaction you may refer your complaint to the Financial Ombudsman Service. The complaints procedure does not affect your legal rights.

HOW TO MAKE A CLAIM

If you wish to make a claim, you should telephone the Claims Department on 0845 600 1751 to request a claim form.

CANCELLATION RIGHTS

If you are not satisfied with your cover, please contact us within 30 days of the start date of your plan. Your cover will then be cancelled from the start date without charge as long as you have not made a claim. After the first 30 days, your cover may be cancelled by giving us 30 days notice either by writing to the Administration Department, PO Box 534, Uxbridge, UB8 1WF or phoning us on 0845 600 1191, but you will not be entitled to a refund of premiums.

COMPENSATION RIGHTS

We are covered by the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS). You may be entitled to compensation from the scheme if we cannot meet our obligations. This depends on the type of business and the circumstances of the claim. The maximum level of compensation you can receive for general non-compulsory insurance is 100% of the first £2,000 and 90% of the remainder of the claim, without any upper limit.
