Personal Firewall

A firewall is a highly effective deterrent for hackers. Put simply, it blocks any unauthorised connections being made to your computer. When the firewall detects such a connection, it alerts you with a warning message. You can then decide to allow the connection or block it.
Many operating systems, including Windows Vista, come with a firewall built-in. But if you have an old version or use another system altogether, you may find your computer doesn't have a firewall. A reputable software supplier will be able to recommend a product to suit your computer and your security needs.
If you're not sure if you have a firewall, you can check with your either your PC supplier or your software provider.
