(Scam caller) hi is this Michael Paul Bell?
(Customer) yes this is Mike.
(Scam caller) Mike I’m Julie calling from the Halifax fraud team. I’m calling about some suspicious activity on your account.
(Customer) uh how do I know you're really from the bank?. Maybe I should give them a ring.
(Scam caller) You are welcome to but it may be easier to just check that your caller id matches the number on the back of your card.
(Customer) Okay, yeah. Hang on. No yeah the numbers do match.
(Scam caller) great we flagged up a payment on your account earlier today for 318 pounds does that ring a bell?
(Customer) I didn't pay that.
(Scam caller) thanks for confirming and mike there's no need for alarm. I’m here to help.
(Customer) right what do you need from me?
(Scam caller) please log into your account and we can help protect your money.
(Customer) yeah okay. um yeah sure.
(Scam caller) I’ll now need you to move your money to another account let me give you the details.
(Customer) uh okay how long until i can get hold of my money again?
(Scam caller) your money will be held until we can secure your account which is usually up to 24 hours.
(Customer) uh right um yeah okay.
(Scam caller) great mike I’ll also book an appointment for you at your branch for tomorrow 10 am?
(Customer) sure I’ll be there thanks for helping sort this out.
(Scam caller) my pleasure we'll see you tomorrow.
