Pay your credit card by Direct Debit

You can do this in Online Banking

  • The fastest way to set up or manage a Direct Debit is through Online Banking on a computer.
  • To set up a Direct Debit, you’ll need your bank or building society sort code and account number.
  • Direct Debit payments can be for one of four monthly payment amounts:
    • Just the minimum. We'll take the minimum payment due.
    • The full statement balance. We'll take the outstanding account balance when your statement was produced.
    • Fixed percentage. You pay a fixed percentage of your balance each month. This can be anything from 2.5% to 99%. We’ll collect at least the minimum payment each month, even if your fixed percentage amount falls below this.
    • An amount set by you. If this set amount is less than the minimum payment due, we'll take the minimum payment.
  • You can change the amount you pay or the account you pay from.
  • If you need to change your due date, you can also do this through Online Banking. From your credit card account summary, select 'More actions'. Then choose 'Paying your credit card', then 'Request payment due date change'.
    1. Sign in to Online Banking and select Pay Credit Card You'll find this next to the account you want to send the payment from.

Keep in mind...

Keep in mind...

If a Direct Debit isn’t taken for 37 months, it will become inactive, and your bank or building society will remove the details from their systems. If this happens, you’ll need to set up a new one.

Set up or change your Direct Debit:

  • You can set up or change your Direct Debit at any time online using a computer.
  • When your Direct Debit is in place, it will show on your statement and your online account. Until then, continue to make payments yourself.
  • Always make sure you have enough money in your account to cover both your Direct Debit and any extra payments.
  • If you have a Direct Debit set up, any extra payments won’t usually reduce your Direct Debit amount.
  • To help you manage your account we may increase your payment if:
    • You usually pay a fixed amount or percentage and it’s not enough to cover your minimum payment.
    • You have any missed payments or reduce your payment to avoid putting your account into credit.

Cancel your Direct Debit:

  • You can cancel your Direct Debit at any time online using a computer.
  • If you cancel your Direct Debit near your due date, we may not be able to cancel the current payment. It will already have begun processing.
  • Once the Direct Debit has been cancelled, you'll need to pay at least the minimum amount each month.
  • Please allow enough time for your payment to reach your account before the date it's due.

Key points about credit card payments

Key points about credit card payments

  • You can make payments to your credit card account at any time. You do need to pay at least the minimum amount shown on your statement each month.
  • If you can't pay the whole statement balance, it's a good idea to pay as much as you can. It may help to keep any interest costs down.
  • If you only make the minimum payment each month, it will take longer and cost you more to pay off your balance.
  • If you miss a payment, you are likely to be charged a late fee and damage your credit rating. You could also lose any promotional rates on your credit card and have to pay the standard interest rate instead.
  • Set up a regular Direct Debit payment and we’ll automatically claim your selected payment amount when it’s due.
  • You can also make payments in other ways. For example, from a bank account, with a debit card, by cheque or with cash at a branch. You can do this even if you have a Direct Debit set up.
  • If you choose to make one-off payments, make sure the method you use will get your payment to us on time.
  • You can ask to change your payment due date to better suit your needs. For example, if you usually receive your salary later than your due date falls. The fastest way to do this is through Online Banking on a computer. From your credit card account summary, select ‘More actions'. Then choose ‘Paying your credit card’ and finally select 'Request payment due date change'.
