Important tips to help you stay covered

Home insurance can be pretty confusing. So it’s important to make sure you know what could stop you from getting your claim approved. Here’s few tips to help keep you covered.

Look after your home

Give your home some regular TLC to help keep general wear and tear to a minimum, as this isn’t covered by insurance.

Keeping your flat roof regularly maintained, for example repairing any obvious damage quickly, will help if you ever need to make a claim for storm damage. It’s advisable to replace your flat roof around every 10 years.

Renovations and Extensions

Whether it’s exciting renovation work or small tweaks, anytime you’re having building work done, let us know so we can confirm any changes to your cover.

If you’re planning to extend your home, give us a call to let us know. That way we can make sure you have the appropriate cover in place in case the worst happens and the building is severely damaged.

Let us know if there’s anyone living in the house, other than the usual family members. This includes any lodgers you might take on.

Did you know you should let us know if anyone in the house has any convictions? Otherwise any claims you need to make could be turned down.

It’s worth taking the time to keep receipts for your expensive items in a safe place. If you ever need to make a claim they confirm important information which can really help speed things up.

Make sure your contents insurance covers all your extra precious items, such as engagement rings. And if you have them revalued and they’re worth more, let us know so you’re covered for the full value if you ever need to make a claim.

Business from home

Running a business from home? Don’t assume everything’s covered under your existing policy. You might need specific business insurance to ensure you have the appropriate cover in place.
