The amount of excess varies and will be confirmed during the temporary car insurance quotation process. This is shown before you purchase, and in your insurance certificate and schedule if you go on to buy cover. The excess is the first part of any claim you must pay. For glass/windscreen claims the full excess is applicable.

Halifax Temporary Car Insurance is available on cars and vans:
- with an engine size of 3,999cc or less
- under 3.5 tonnes in weight
- with 8 or fewer seats.
Halifax Temporary Car Insurance is available on motorhomes:
- with an engine size of 3,000cc or less
- under 5 tonnes in weight
- with at least one bed of 6 feet in length, wardrobe cupboards fitted, and has seating for diners at a table.

Your temporary car insurance policy starts from the date and time you entered when you completed your quote and purchase. Your insurance certificate, which is your proof of insurance, should arrive within 15-30 minutes. If you don’t receive it, please email: support@dayinsure.com

To qualify for Halifax Temporary Car Insurance, you need to:
- be aged 18 to 75 years
- have a valid GB driving licence
- have permission from the vehicle owner
- know the vehicle registration.
We can’t offer temporary car insurance if you are:
- 17 years old
- a learner driver.
Acceptance is also subject to other factors. These could include your location, occupation, driving experience and the car you’re looking to insure.
