Make the switch

Switching your bank account from a different bank such as Barclays, Natwest or HSBC is easier than you think... in fact, our dedicated Switching Team will do it for you.

Switch your account

Whatever you're looking for in a bank account, once you've made your choice you'll want to start enjoying the benefits straight away. Our Switching Team will help you do just that. All you have to do is sign two forms, then we'll do the rest.

Our Switching Team will:

  • contact your bank
  • switch any regular payments, direct debits and standing orders to your new account
  • arrange an overdraft that’s interest free or fee free (depending on the type of account) for the first four months.

...and of course, you can contact us at any time to find out how it’s going.

Existing Customers

Are you already a Halifax current account customer? Make life easier and switch your current account to us.

You may already have a current account with Halifax, but use a different bank such as Barclays, NatWest or HSBC to pay your salary into and direct debits and standing orders out of.

If you’d prefer to have your main current account with Halifax – you can.
Simply use our switching service to transfer your bank account from another bank over to your existing Halifax current account. You can relax knowing everything is being taken care of.

Print and fill in these two forms then post them to:
Halifax, PO Box 548, Leeds LS1 1WU or take them into your local branch.

Overdrafts

To help make the switch as smooth as possible, we'll give you either an interest-free or fee-free overdraft for four months to cover your outgoings during the switch, depending on the type of current account you open.

Ultimate Reward Current Account

  • For the  first four months you’ll get an interest-free overdraft
    (0% EAR)
  • After four months the rate on arranged overdrafts over £300 is 19.5% EAR variable.

Reward Current Account

  • For the  first four months you’ll get a  fee-free overdraft. You won’t pay any interest (whether your overdraft is arranged or unarranged).
  • After four months: If you use an arranged overdraft up to and including £2,500, we’ll charge you £1 a day. If you use an arranged overdraft of over £2,500, we’ll charge you £2 a day.

What’s more, you still won’t have to pay any interest if you go overdrawn. As we charge fees on this account instead of interest, the typical rate is 0% EAR.

Because switching bank accounts is easier than you think, there’s nothing to stop you enjoying all the benefits of a better bank account.

How to Switch

It's easy to switch when you apply for either a Halifax Reward Current Account or an Ultimate Reward Current Account.

All you need to do is…

  • choose an account that's right for you
  • complete the application form online
  • select the option to switch when you're at step 6 in the online application form
  • print and fill in the two forms
  • post them to Halifax, PO Box 548, Leeds LS1 1WU or take them into your local branch.

An important note...

EAR is the equivalent annual rate. This is the actual annual cost of an overdraft. It does not take into account fees and charges. You can only use the switching service to transfer your bank account from another bank or building society to a Halifax current account. We do everything possible to ensure all your standing orders, direct debits and incoming payments are transferred across to your new current account. But we do rely on the organisations you pay by direct debit and your previous bank or building society to quickly change their records. If they take too long to respond, this could delay the switch. Your employer or pension provider is also responsible for changing their records and paying your salary or pension into your new account.Halifax current accounts and services offered are subject to status. Overdrafts are repayable on demand.
