Activating your new Halifax Credit Card is quick, easy and secure.

You can activate your new credit card with our secure Online Banking. You'll need to have your credit card to hand; we'll need details from the card as well as some of your personal information to complete the activation. If you’re already registered with Online Banking you’ll need your sign in details.

As part of the activation process you will be given the opportunity to choose additional services that may benefit you. You will be given the option to:

  • make a balance transfer
  • sign up for paper-free statements - online statements are available for credit cards via Online Banking, making it easier to manage your account
  • set up a Direct Debit - this can be for a fixed amount or percentage, the minimum or the full outstanding balance.

If you're not registered with Online Banking, you’ll still have the opportunity to register once you’ve activated your credit card, so that you can take advantage of these services.

Not registered for Online Banking?

Even if you're not already registered for Online Banking, you can still activate your new credit card securely online.

You'll also be able to register for Online Banking, which will allow you to view your balance and statements and manage your account online. You can also choose not to receive paper copies by post by signing up for paper-free.

    1. I'm not registered for Online Banking, can you tell me more about the service?
      Online Banking is safe, secure and easy to use. Over 5 million of our customers already bank with us online. You can access your accounts 24/7 all year round, whether you're at home or on the go.

      With Online Banking you can activate your credit card,  keep track of your money, make balance transfers, make payments and see your statements.

    2. How do I activate an additional card?
      The main cardholder must activate any additional card, as the 16 digit credit card account number of the main cardholder is needed. You can activate the additional card online, by calling the number on the credit card sticker or you can pop into your local branch.
    3. Do I need to activate my credit card before I can use it online?
      Yes, for security purposes you need to activate your credit card before you can use it.
    4. Do I need to activate my replacement card?
      You will not need to activate your replacement credit card, unless the sticker on the card asks you to do so.
    5. Can I personalise my PIN number?
      You can change your PIN at most UK cash machines. Just insert your card and using the PIN we've sent you, follow the on-screen instructions.
    6. I've forgotten my PIN number?
      If you’ve forgotten your PIN, you can request a PIN reminder which will be sent through the post. You’ll receive your reminder by post in 3-5 working days.

      Just select one of the following options:

      - Sign into Online Banking - Use our replacement cards and PINs service by selecting it from the ‘More actions’ tools.
      - Use our App and select the account action button ( the 3 dotted icon) for your chosen account.
      - Call us on: 0345 944 4555* - Lines are open Monday – Sunday 24 hours a day.
      *Please note that for security purposes, we cannot provide your PIN details over the phone.

Contactless Cards

To activate contactless on your credit card you just need to make a PIN transaction first.

Going Abroad?

You no longer need to tell us when you are travelling abroad, our fraud and security systems will always be on the lookout so you can relax when you are away.

Balance Transfers

As an existing Halifax credit card customer you could benefit from promotional balance transfer offers, which could help you save money and manage your finances. A transfer fee may apply.
