Restart a Direct Debit

If you don’t bank with us and cancelled your Direct Debit more than 2 months ago, we may need to contact you for more details.

If you’d like to change the account you pay from, see our section below.

Change the account you pay from

You'll need to complete a Direct Debit Instruction form (PDF) and return it to us. Or you can call us on 0345 727 3747 and we’ll make the change over the phone. We’re available Monday to Friday 8am-8pm and Saturday 9am-4pm.

Whichever way you tell us, you're still covered by the Direct Debit Guarantee offered by all banks and building societies that accept instructions to pay Direct Debits. We'll also write to you to confirm your Direct Debit Instruction.

Change the date you pay

You can change your payment date by calling us on 0345 727 3747. We’re available Monday to Friday 8am-8pm and Saturday 9am-4pm.

  • You can only choose a date between the 1st and 28th.
As your payment needs to be the same day each month.
  • The best day of the month to make your monthly payment is the 1st.
This is because we’ll charge the least amount of interest for the month. For most accounts we calculate interest daily.
  • You might make two payments in short space of time.
This will happen if you change your payment date from the end of the month to the beginning, e.g. on the 28th and again on the 5th.
  • Your payment amount may rise or fall.
We’ll be able to tell you if there will be any change. If it does change, in most cases the difference will be relatively small.

Change the amount you pay

Your Direct Debit will automatically change if your mortgage payment changes. For example, when a change in interest rate affects the payment amount. You won't need to take any action and we'll write to you to confirm the changes.

You won’t be able to change your agreed monthly payment amount we take by Direct Debit, but you have a few options to manage your payments:

Make an overpayment

It’s easy to make lump sum payments or set up regular overpayments. If you set up a regular overpayment we’ll update your existing Direct Debit payment.

Take a payment holiday

You’ll need to apply for a payment holiday. We’ll then fully assess your application as the amount you owe will increase.

Underpay or miss a payment

You’ll need to give us a call if you want to underpay or think you need to miss a payment. Call us on 0345 850 3705. We’re available Monday to Friday 8am-8pm and Saturday 9am-4pm.

Already missed a payment? Then call us on 0800 023 2679. Lines are open Monday to Friday, 8am to 7pm and Saturday 8am to 2pm.
