There are a number of ways we are supporting our customers and the people of Ukraine at this difficult time. Our thoughts continue to be with the people of Ukraine and all those affected by the conflict.
Other ways we are supporting
We’re refunding our fee on payments to Ukraine
If you need to send a payment from a Halifax current account to Ukraine, you won’t currently pay our £9.50 fee. We’re refunding our fee for any payments made to Ukraine on and since 21st February 2022 and this will be done automatically within a few days.
You won’t pay a credit card fee to send money to charities abroad
For now, non sterling transaction fees won’t be charged on Halifax credit card payments, made to non-UK based charities on and since 24th February 2022.
Mortgage support for Homes for Ukraine government scheme
If you're planning to support the government scheme to house Ukrainian refugees, we're supporting you by making the process as simple as possible.
You won't need to notify us if you're providing:
- a room(s) in your own home (current limit of 2 lodgers will not apply)
- a residential property you own (there’s no need to request consent to lease but you'll need to obtain a tenancy agreement)
- your Buy To Let property (normal mortgage and letting conditions apply, and you need to obtain a tenancy agreement).
It's important you consider whether by providing this support you are still able to afford your household bills, pay your mortgage and it doesn’t put you in financial difficulty. You may wish to look at any government guidance issued.
Home Insurance support for Homes for Ukraine government scheme
If you’re welcoming Ukrainian refugees into your home as part of the UK’s ‘Homes for Ukraine’ scheme and have Halifax Home Insurance cover, you do not need to tell us about your change in circumstances. You’ll continue to be covered by your existing policy.
