If you're an existing Halifax Car Insurance customer, you can get access to the self-service centre to manage your car insurance policy online. You will also find helpful information on how to make a car insurance claim.

Halifax Car Insurance is arranged and administered by BISL Limited, and underwritten by a panel of insurers.


Existing customer Self-Service Centre

As an existing customer, you can make changes to your car insurance policy online, when it's convenient to you. With the Self-Service Centre, you can: 

  • add and remove additional drivers
  • change your vehicle, cover level and vehicle use
  • change your address and amend your contact details
  • make payments and change your payment details
  • view, download or print your policy documents.

Important information: changes made to your policy may result in a change in premium.

Making a car insurance claim

If you need to make a car insurance claim, we're here to help.  If your claim is due to a car accident you don't need to immediately register a claim but we'd recommend contact us within 24 hours if possible.

To help us process your claim you'll need to provide some details.

This could include:

  • your policy number
  • the date and time of your accident or incident
  • details of any third party involvement
  • details of any eye witnesses
  • if the police or emergency services were involved.

Halifax car insurance renewals

If your car insurance policy is up for renewal, we won't automatically renew your policy. Your policy will only be automatically renewed if you've opted in for this  service when you purchased your original policy, either online or over the phone.

What you can expect from us

We’ll contact you 28 days before the policy is due to expire with your new renewal quote. You can then choose to accept the renewal quote or cancel it using the online Self-Service Centre.

Alternatively, you can call us to accept or cancel your renewal quote over the phone.  If you're not happy with you're quote we can also ask our panel of insurers to quote you again.

Providing proof of No Claims Discount (NCD)

When you take out Halifax Car Insurance you’ll be asked for proof of any existing No Claims Discount. This could be a renewal invitation or an insurer's letter.

The proof must relate to a policy you've held within the last two years and must show:

  • registration details of the vehicle
  • details about any claims or losses
  • the renewal or expiry date of the policy
  • No Claims Discount in years or as a percentage.

Important information: To avoid the cost of your policy increasing or being cancelled, please send in your proof of no claims discount within 21 days of your policy start date.
