Don't get caught out. Know your PIN
You must use your PIN to be sure you can pay with your debit or credit card both at home and when abroad.
So don’t get caught out at the front of the queue, make sure you know your PIN – and enjoy a secure, faster and more convenient way to shop.
Do you find it difficult to remember your PIN?
You can choose a new number that’s easier to remember. For example, if a friend’s birthday is 21 March you could choose 2103, or if your wedding anniversary is 29 April you could use 2904.
You can change your PIN at any Halifax cash machine and at most UK cash machines. Simply key in your existing PIN, select PIN services and follow the on-screen instructions – it’s easy and will only take a couple of minutes.
Now all you have to do is use your PIN when shopping. And remember, the PIN you use when out shopping is always the same four-digit number you use at the cash machine and is the same PIN you can use outside the UK at cash machines or to pay in shops and restaurants.
What if I forget my PIN?
If you’ve forgotten your PIN, you can request a replacement through Online Banking or you can call us on 0345 720 3040. We’ll send your replacement PIN by post, which you’ll receive within 5-7 working days.
You can also get an instant reminder of your PIN in the Mobile Banking app by following a few simple steps.
What if I lock my PIN?
If you forget your PIN and enter it incorrectly three times, your PIN will be ‘locked’, preventing you using it. Locking your PIN isn’t the end of the world. If you remember your PIN later, you can ‘unlock’ it at any Halifax cash machine and most UK cash machines. Just key in your existing PIN, select PIN services and follow the on-screen instructions.
