What’s included in our cover?

Home Insurance Select offers you three levels of cover to choose from. With each option you can choose to cover your things when they're away from home, and cover any high value items you may have. You can also add Home Emergency cover to your policy.

Choosing the right level of cover

The level of cover you need will be individual to you. It will depend on things like how much your belongings are worth, and if you want cover for accidental damage. You'll need to make sure you have enough cover for all of your contents. Compare what's included with our Bronze, Silver and Gold cover to help you choose which one is best for you.

Our policy documents tell you more about what is and isn’t covered. Keep in mind that with all of our cover, there are limits, terms and exclusions. Read the policy documents (PDF, 508kb).

How much excess would I need to pay?

Your excess is the amount you’ll pay towards most types of claim. You can choose your own excess between £100 and £500. A higher excess means your cover will cost less, but you’ll have to pay more towards a claim.

With Bronze and Silver cover, there's a different excess for leaking water claims.

Contents insurance: FAQs

Do I need contents insurance as a tenant?

Contents insurance or renters insurance will cover the things that you own in your home. You don't need buildings insurance as your landlord should cover this.

How soon can you claim on contents insurance?

If it's covered, you can claim for something that happens at any time after the policy starts. Call your insurer to describe:

  • How your things were damaged, destroyed or stolen
  • The value of these items
  • When it happened

You may need to provide proof of the value of any items that you're claiming for.

Is a washing machine covered in contents insurance?

Yes. Your contents cover does include kitchen appliances that are free standing, such as washing machines. But if your appliance is built in, it will be covered under your buildings insurance. There's no cover for your washing machine if it breaks down.

Does contents insurance cover fire?

Yes, you will be covered if the things in your home are damaged by fire. It doesn't cover damage to the property itself.

Is a carpet covered under contents insurance?

Yes. Your carpets are usually covered by contents insurance. For example, if there’s a flood and your carpet is ruined.

Contents insurance does not cover your carpet for accidental damage unless you choose to include Accidental Damage cover on your policy. So if you spill something and make a stain, you won't be able to claim for cleaning or a new carpet.

With our Home Insurance Select polices accidental damage is only available with our Silver and Gold level of cover and it comes as standard.

Our policy documents tell you more about what is and isn't covered. Keep in mind that with all of our cover, there are limits, terms and exclusions. Read the policy documents (PDF 508KB).
