What’s included in our cover?

Home Insurance Select offers you three levels of cover to choose from. With each option you can choose to cover your things when they're away from home, and cover any high value items you may have. You can also add Home Emergency cover to your policy.

Choosing the right level of cover

The level of cover you need will be individual to you. It will depend on things like how much your belongings are worth, and if you want cover for accidental damage. You'll need to make sure you have enough cover for all of your contents. Compare what's included with our Bronze, Silver and Gold cover to help choose which one is best for you.

Our policy documents tell you more about what is and isn't covered. Keep in mind that with all of our cover, there are limits, terms and exclusions. Read the policy documents (PDF, 508kB).

How much excess would I need to pay?

Your excess is the amount you’ll pay towards most types of claim. You can choose your own excess between £100 and £500. A higher excess means your cover will cost less, but you’ll have to pay more towards a claim.

With Bronze and Silver cover, there's a different excess for subsidence and leaking water claims.

What’s covered if I need to claim?

Buildings - Covers you if something happens to your home. For example, if there's a fire, storm or flood. Whichever level of cover you choose, we'll cover up to the full rebuild cost of your home and its outbuildings. There's also up to £100,000 cover for the extra cost of staying somewhere else if you need to because of a claim.

Contents - Covers the things inside your home against theft, and damage by events like fire, storm or flood. You're insured up to the contents limit amount for the level of cover you choose. This includes any high value items that you name on your policy, things in your outbuildings up to £5,000, and up to £500 for damage to frozen food. There's also up to £25,000 cover for the extra cost of staying somewhere else if you need to because of a claim.

More about the options you can choose

Away from Home

Away from home cover protects the things you have with you when you leave the house, like your phone, watch or bike. It includes students' contents in student accommodation up to £5,000. If you've named any high value items, you can also choose to cover these away from home.

Optional on Bronze, Silver and Gold

Accidental Damage

This covers you against accidental damage to your home and the things in it. So if a football smashes your window or a drink is spilt on your carpet, we'll pay to repair the damage or replace your things.

Included with Silver and Gold.

Legal Expenses

This pays up to £50,000 in case you need to take legal action. It gives you access to a 24/7 helpline for legal advice. It covers things like contract, employment and neighbour disputes.

Home Emergency cover

This protects you against emergency repairs which wouldn't normally be covered by your home insurance. There's a 24/7 helpline, so if your boiler breaks down or your power fails, you can get help fast. It pays for repairs up to £1,000 a time. And there's no excess to pay.

Optional on Bronze, Silver and Gold

  • The amount of excess you agree to pay.

What is the difference between buildings and contents insurance?
