How much excess would I need to pay?

Your excess is the amount you'll pay towards the cost of most types of claim. You can choose your own excess between £100 and £500. A higher excess means your cover will cost less, but you'll have to pay more towards a claim.

With Bronze and Silver cover, there's a different excess for subsidence and leaking water claims.

What's covered if I need to claim?

Buildings insurance covers you if something happens to your home. For example, if there's a fire, storm or flood. Whichever level of cover you choose, we'll cover up to the full rebuild cost of your home and its outbuildings. There's up to £100,000 cover for the extra cost of staying somewhere else if you need to because of a claim. We also cover the cost of changing your locks if your keys are lost or stolen.

Our policy documents tell you more about what is and isn't covered. Keep in mind that with all of our cover, there are limits, terms and exclusions. Read the policy documents (PDF 508KB).

Accidental Damage

This covers you against accidental damage to your home. So if a football smashes your window, or your foot goes through the loft floor, we'll pay to repair the damage.

Included with Silver and Gold.

Legal Expenses

This pays up to £50,000 in case you need to take legal action. It gives you access to a 24/7 helpline for legal advice. It covers things like contract, employment and neighbour disputes.

Included with Silver and Gold.

Home Emergency cover

This protects you against emergency repairs which wouldn't normally be covered by your home insurance. There's a 24/7 helpline, so if your boiler breaks down or your power fails, you can get help fast. It pays for repairs up to £1,000 a time. And there's no excess to pay.

Optional on Bronze, Silver and Gold.

What happens if I need to make a claim?

We hope you never need to, but if you do need to claim we've made it as simple as we can. You can make a claim online any time, day or night. You can also make a claim over the phone.

Buildings insurance: FAQs

Does buildings insurance cover leaks?

Yes, buildings insurance can protect you against the cost of damage caused to your property from leaking oil or water.

This only covers damage to your home itself and its fixtures and fittings. If there is damage to the things in your home, for example a carpet is ruined, you'll need contents insurance to claim for it.

Does buildings insurance cover damp?

No, buildings insurance doesn't cover damage that happen slowly over time such as damp. Damp normally occurs as a result of excess moisture in your home. It is up to you to fix this issue as it could cause further structural damage.

Do I need buildings insurance as a tenant?

No, if you are a tenant, your landlord is responsible for arranging buildings insurance for your home. You'll need contents or renters insurance to protect the things you own inside your home.

Does buildings insurance cover my boiler if it breaks down?

No, buildings insurance doesn't cover damage caused by wear and tear. So if your boiler breaks down, you won't be covered. Home Emergency cover can protect you against paying out for emergency repairs to your boiler.
