How to make extra loan payments

You can make extra payments on top of your monthly amount. We won't charge you for doing so. This will reduce the total amount of interest you’ll pay and could reduce your loan term

You can do this online

  • Use our calculator to instantly see how your extra payment will affect your loan.
  • You can pay up to £25,000 off your loan using our app or Online Banking.
  • You’ll need a Halifax current or savings account to make the payment online.

Keep in Mind

You’ll need to continue to make your monthly repayments, even if you make extra payments.

Please note, manual payments won't take the place of your monthly payment. We'll still take your direct debit as planned on your usual payment date.

How to do it

Let us show you step by step.

  1. Log in and select the loan account you want to pay. Then select the three-dot menu.
  2. Select additional payment.
  3. Enter how much extra you'd like to pay. Select Calculate to see how this will affect your loan.
  4. Follow instructions on how to make your extra payment.

  • If you're not registered for online banking, you can still make extra loan payments. You can do this by calling us or visiting your local branch.

Pay from another bank's current account just like you would pay a bill or a person. To set up a new payee and complete a payment, you'll need the following details:

    • Account number: 90000468
    • Sort code: 77-77-90
    • Reference number: This is your 12-digit loan account number.

You can find your loan account number in your online banking or in any letters about your loan that you've received from us.

It’s best to check your payment limits with your bank before making any large payments.
