Do you need to provide additional documentation to us?

We always attempt to complete ID checks electronically, however sometimes this isn’t possible and you’ll need to provide valid original or certified documents to open your account.

When this happens you‘ll need to send us one document from the proof of identity list and one document from the proof of address list. All documents must be valid original or certified documents.

All documents must be current as we cannot accept expired documentation.


  • You can certify your documents in any Halifax, Lloyds Bank or Bank of Scotland branch, or by a lawyer or accountant who is a member of a recognised professional body.

    If you’d like a lawyer or accountant to certify your documents:

    • We must be able to locate the certifier by name.
    • The individual who is certifying your document(s) must state, 'I have seen the original document and I certify this to be a true copy of the original'.
    • They should also sign, print their name and date the copy.
    • They should state their professional capacity and apply their branch or practice stamp as appropriate.
    • All certified documents must be printed on letter headed paper.
  •  

    • Passport - (Passports not from the UK/EU/EEA require a valid visa)

    Or:

    • UK photo driving licence

    Or:

    • Full paper driving licence.
    • EU/EEA driving licence with photograph and signature; this must be issued by a member state of the EU/EEA.
    • Northern Ireland voters card.
    • EEA or equivalent jurisdiction National Identity Card with photograph and signature.
    • UK Benefits / State Pension Notification letter dated within the last 12 months. This must be from an official source i.e. Job Centre Plus, Department for Work and Pensions / Local Authority confirming the rights to a benefit.
    • HM Revenue and Customs Tax Notification issued within the last 12 months. This must be a HMRC Tax Notification i.e. statement of account, notice of coding relating to the current year. We CANNOT accept P45’s or P60’s.
    • UK Blue Disabled Drivers Pass. This must contain passport sized photo, name, signature, expiry date and issuer details.
    • Biometric Residence Permit issued by Home Office.
    • Firearms certificate.
    • Passport Card (Ireland).
    • UK Military card (known as MOD90). Only acceptable for current serving personnel.
  •  

    • Utility bill (dated within the last 6 months)

    Or:

    • Council tax demand letter / statement (dated within the last 12 months)

    Or (we cannot accept any of the below if you’re also using it for proof of identity):

    • UK photo driving licence.
    • UK full paper driving licence.
    • EU/EEA driving licence with photograph and signature; this must be issued by a member state of the EU/EEA.
    • Bank or Building Society Statement. This must be issued by a regulated financial sector firm in the UK, EU or equivalent jurisdiction and dated showing transactions within the last 6 months. Statements showing interest only, carry forward balances or ISA statements CANNOT be accepted.
    • Mortgage statement. This must be issued by a regulated financial sector firm in the UK, EU or equivalent jurisdiction and dated within the last 12 months.
    • HM Revenue and Customs Tax Notification issued within the last 12 months. This must be a HMRC Tax Notification i.e. statement of account, notice of coding relating to the current year. We CANNOT accept P45’s or P60’s.
    • UK Benefits / State Pension Notification letter dated within the last 12 months. This must be from an official source i.e. Job Centre Plus, Department for Work and Pensions / Local Authority confirming the rights to a benefit.
    • Solicitors’ correspondence confirming a house purchase in the last 3 months and dated within the last 3 months.
    • Local Council Rent/Card/ Statement – The Rent card / statement must be issued by the Local Council Authority and include your name and residential address. It must have also been updated in the last 3 months.

Are you ready to send us your documents?

In the subject of the email please include your Personal Reference Number.

To confirm your identity and address, you will need to include 3 photographs:

  1. A photo of your Driving Licence or your Passport open to the photo page.
  2. A photo of you holding your ID document.
  3. A photo of a utility bill, or bank statement dated within the last 3 months or a council tax bill or mortgage statement dated within the last 12 months.

Please ensure the photographs are taken clearly so we can verify the documents being sent into us. When taking a photo of yourself ensure it is a clear visible image of your whole face with no obstructions (i.e. no sunglasses or hat).

When sending documents through to us we must make you aware of the following:

  • The size of your email including all attachments needs to be under 20mb.
  • Emails sent to Lloyds Banking Group by you are not secure prior to reaching our infrastructure, and may be accessed by an unauthorised person. Therefore we advise that you consider the risk to your personal and confidential information e.g. email correspondence with a merchant before you communicate in this way. Please consider whether you are still comfortable sending us documents by email.

Find your Investment Account or Investment ISA In Online Banking

If you’ve got an Investment Account or an Investment ISA, and if you’re struggling to find it within Online Banking, then please follow the below steps.

Step 1: Login to Online Banking.
Step 2: Scroll past any Halifax accounts that you may have until you see ‘Your investments and pensions’.
Step 3: Click on the + icon to see your account, you can now click on your account to view your investments.
